'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' review

On the 20th September, I went along to the Marlowe to see 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat', which is a pretty famous musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. An added bonus: Ian Watkins aka H from Steps was Joseph!! I saw H in the flesh! It was awesome; having grown up admiring him.

Look at that face!

Very jazzy

One of the most amazing parts of the show was the music and the band that went with it. There was virtually no spoken dialogue as everything was sung. The main focus of the show was definitely on the music and visual display rather than the storyline, hence, I found it a bit jumbled and random, if I'm being perfectly honest. We were sitting in the upper circle, and I'm not sure this was why, but the singing was also quite echoey and it was hard at points to understand what exactly was going on. The voices were amazing though (especially H) and the dancing of the chorus was great; all perfectly in sync.

Overall, I loved the show, but I wish there had been more of a prominent focus on the storyline, even though the music was amazing. I recommend going to see it if you like the music to dominate the show, and I would give it a 7/10.

Bye!!
